For the third time, KIKK Festival will take over Namur (Belgium) to showcase the latest movers and shakers in the worlds of digital art and design. KIKK brings together the world’s most talented creative coders, innovators, designers, artists and researchers.

On November 7, 8 & 9, a unique 3 days FREE event will unite artists, technologists, designers, professionals, students, and any creative mind interested in exploring the future of our culture to get a glimpse into what will be possible. Expect thrilling talks, fascinating interactive installations, unique workshops and stunning live performances.

Next utopia

Our world is changing, quickly and on a global scale. Every day new processes, new concepts and new techniques are born. Our beacons are washed away and this is continually speeding up. KIKK Festival explores this exciting time and speculates on what will be the next utopias, what future generations will bring.

The future of interaction

This edition will dive into the future of interaction and interface design with Dr. Ivan Poupyrev, Senior Research Scientist at Disney Research, whose research focuses on inventing technologies that seamlessly blend of digital and physical in devices, everyday objects, living and working environments. His latest project AIREAL is a machine that puffs air rings allowing you to actually feel objects and textures in midair without requiring the user to wear a physical device

Hacking culture, sharing and openness

Media artist Kyle McDonald will discuss about the future of creativity, sharing code and ideas, collaborating on artwork.  He regularly contributes to open source arts-engineering initiatives such as openFrameworks, with an emphasis on interaction and computer vision. He advocates critical openness, and tries to push the limits of sharing in his daily practice. During his workshop “Face as Interface” Kyle will also teach participants to use face tracking in real time to control tasks that we usually accomplish with the keyboard, mouse, or other interfaces.

The work of media artist Paolo Cirio deals with various issues related to the emergence of digital media in fields such as copyright, privacy, transparency, finance, advertising, geopolitics, democracy and fiction. He will present his project “Loophole for All” in which the real identities of 200.000 anonymous companies taking advantage of the tax havens are on sale at a low cost to democratize the privileges of offshore businesses.

Evan Roth’s presentation “From Free Software to Fine Art” will discuss the influence of the open source development model and hacker philosophies in his art practice. Usman Haque director of Haque Design + Research and founder of Pachube, a real-time data infrastructure and community for the Internet of Things will also reflect on notions of collaboration and mass-participation initiatives.

Fashionable technology

Dutch based designer  Anouk Wipprecht , a rising star in the emerging field of “fashionable technology”; a rare combination of sartorial knowhow combined with engineering smarts and style, will present her tech-enhanced designs bringing together fashion and technology in an unusual way. She creates technological couture; with background in fashion design combined with engineering, science and interaction design, she creates systems around the body that tend towards artificial intelligence; projected as ‘host’ systems on the human body, her designs move, breath, and react to the environment around them.

Feeling and experiencing

KIKK is also about feeling and experiencing interactive installations, new technologies and learning through an avant-garde program of workshops, an exhibition with artworks and prototypes such as Dyskograf a graphic disk reader translating drawings into a musical sequence or Aperture by TheGreenEyl a facade installation with interactive and narrative displaying modes that creates new imagery as well as a new channel for communication between inside and outside.  As the festival couldn’t exist without its people, KIKK will also bring its share of networking and fun with KIKK parties and live performances such as MR-808 mechanical drum robots.
